HistoryThe North Carolina Association of Dying, Death, and Bereavement (Formerly NC ADEC) began after Jack LoCicero returned from his first ADEC conference which was held in Duluth, MN in 1991. A letter was mail to all ADEC members living in North Carolina in January 1992 to see if there was interest in starting a state chapter. All members were invited to an organizational meeting at Hospice of Winston-Salem. There was an overwhelming positive response in favor of starting a chapter. The first Board of Directors consisted of: Jack LoCicero, President Howard Winokeur, First Vice President ![]() ![]() Chris Osborne, Second Vice President Alexis Stein, Treasurer Katherine Moore, Secretary Thomas Lundy, Member at Large Thurman Guy, Member at Large Audrey Brendle, Member at Large
Our MissionThe North Carolina Association of Dying, Death, and Bereavement (Formerly NC ADEC) is an international, interdisciplinary, professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in issues surrounding dying and death, grief education and bereavement care. We provide support, stimulation and encouragement for a diverse professional community.
